1. Documenting and Disseminating Indigenous Ecological Knowledge in Perak
Funded by Elaine Mok-Parsons as a green legacy for the next generation.
By developing a user-friendly, multilingual forest conservation field guide, TRCRC seeks to safeguard valuable traditional knowledge of the Temiar and Jehan tribes that risks being lost between generations and encourage Indigenous youth to get involved with local biodiversity conservation. The guide will include species names in Temiar and Jehan, Malay and English names, scientific names, and relevant ecological and cultural information, including medicinal uses. TRCRC is an NGO that conserves and preserves threatened tropical rainforest plant species in Malaysia. (trcrc.org)
2. Strengthening Marine Mammal Stranding and Entanglement Response
Funded by WS Leong
To improve preparedness among local communities on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia in responding to strandings and frequent net entanglements of dolphins, porpoises and other marine animals, MareCet will conduct 3 workshops combining theory with hands-on demonstration. They aim to train 100 individuals, establish a network of local responders, and improve both the survival rates of stranded and entangled animals and the quality of data collected from the events. Marecet is an NGO that is dedicated to the research and conservation of marine mammals in Malaysia. (marecet.org)

Special project grant
RM10,000 was awarded to the Friends of Bukit Kiara (www.fobk.org) for their work to protect their urban green space in Kuala Lumpur. The grant will part fund a bio-diversity survey to support an innovative application to the planning authorities to create a green buffer zone beyond the periphery of the park. If achieved this will be a ground breaking precedent for urban nature conservation. This grant was funded by Elaine Mok-Parsons as a green legacy for the next generation.
