BIJI ALAM AWARDS 2026
for Outstanding Malaysian Nature Conservationist
The Biji Alam Awards 2026 competition for Outstanding Malaysian Nature Conservationist will be open for applications between 9 March to 4 May 2026, with an offering of two awards of RM40,000 each.

ABOUT THE AWARDS

The purpose of these awards is to recognise the considerable contributions of Malaysian nature conservationists and to encourage local grassroots support to this essential sector.
We seek to award individual conservationists, rather than their organisations, who work in Peninsular and East Malaysia for their outstanding work to Malaysian wildlife conservation..
We are looking for mid-career conservationists: people with both solid achievements and further plans worthy of public support.
AWARDEES
Our winners are individual conservationists with proven achievement in Malaysian conservation. They have already demonstrated an ability to make change on the ground, and will now be on their way to bigger and longer term dreams.

They are dynamic leaders carrying out impactful, science based conservation of species or habitats with the resilience to carry out their long term plans.

They use approaches that inspire and engage more people in conservation work and be able to communicate publicly the purpose and outcomes of their work in compelling ways.
SPECIAL GRANT
In 2025, we decided to give out a special project grant of RM10,000 to an organization to carry out an innovative project with potentially national significance. Special grants will be awarded on an ad hoc basis if we come across a project which we feel may be particularly worth supporting.
DEFINITION OF CONSERVATION
The definition of conservation used by this Award is broad and we welcome innovation but activities need to address, in practical ways, the protection and/or restoration of species either directly or through, biodiversity and habitat management using a science based approach.

We are open to innovative work that demonstrate the ways conservation is now growing within Malaysian society such as community engagement, applied research, public education, policy reform, habitat management (both land and water), law enforcement, ecological restoration, improved land-use and innovative approaches eg. facilitating alternative sources of income to indigenous communities and technology in conjunction with conventional conservation solutions.
