A NEW STYLE OF ENVIRONMENTAL FUNDING FOR NATURE CONSERVATIONISTS IN MALAYSIA.
2024 Awards Now Live!
Biji Alam Awards is a homegrown funding award for local nature conservationists administered and run by the Biji Alam Conservation Society, to recognise the considerable contributions of mid-career conservationists across Malaysia and to encourage local support to this essential sector.
SUPPORTING LOCAL CONSERVATIONISTS
Malaysian nature conservationists are a much underappreciated and unrecognised group. Despite their work to benefit nature and society, often carried out with considerable personal sacrifice, they frequently struggle to fund their work and end up relying on foreign funders due to the lack of home-grown support. The few local grants in existence typically come from foundations linked to political or corporate groups. Meanwhile, local residents who desire to help conserve nature against the degradation they have seen over many years, find that there are few ways they can directly support local projects with confidence.
BIJI ALAM AWARDS
This award aims to solve this problem by raising the profile of worthy conservationists and supporting them both financially and practically. The winners will be chosen in a carefully curated process where they are selected and vetted by independent experts in the field. This way the funders know that they will be financing high quality, meaningful conservation work and the people behind them.
